Sometimes presented as a natural cannabinoid, it is actually created from a series of extractions involving both the molecule of <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/\">CBD<\/a> and that of <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/quest-ce-que-le-thc\">THC<\/a> (more particularly the <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/quest-ce-que-le-delta-8-thc\/\"><strong>delta-8-THC<\/strong><\/a>). These extracts are then supplemented with a highly flammable compound,<strong>acetic anhydride<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From these laboratory manipulations a new molecule is born: THC-O. It is therefore a <strong>synthetic cannabinoid<\/strong> derived from hemp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since THC is illegal in most countries around the world, it is often impossible or at least difficult to work on this basis. In the laboratory, everything generally starts with a <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"CBD - cannabidiol\">CBD<\/a> molecule. Technicians first transform it into Delta-8 or Delta-9 THC. It is from this first derivative that they <strong>create THC-O acetate<\/strong>, which can also be synthesized from THC or <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/thca-definition\/\">THCA<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final formula for the THC-O molecule is C<sub>23<\/sub>H<sub>32<\/sub>O<sub>3<\/sub>. <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\" data-internallinksmanager029f6b8e52c=\"1\" title=\"CBD - cannabidiol\">CBD<\/a> and THC share the same chemical formula (C<sub>21<\/sub>H<sub>30<\/sub>O<sub>2<\/sub>), with a slightly different arrangement of atoms. The relative proximity between these different substances means that they are all capable of interacting with the <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/systeme-endocannabinoide-definition\/\">endocannabinoid system<\/a> (DRY). Their differences nevertheless imply <strong>unique effects<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-comment-le-thc-o-fait-il-effet-nbsp\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_does_THC-O_work\"><\/span>How does THC-O work?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-349658\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Effets-THC-O-min.jpg\" alt=\"thc o min effects\" class=\"wp-image-349658\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">After ingestion, THC-O must still be metabolized to take effect<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Due to the modifications it has undergone in the laboratory, THC-O has unique effects. Certainly, they are close to those of THC and other known cannabinoids, they are nevertheless very much their own. Thus, it is estimated that THC-O would be approximately <strong>three times more potent than delta-9-THC<\/strong> and five times more powerful than delta-8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To fully understand the effects of THC-O, in-depth studies are still required. However, THC-O is considered a <strong>prodrug<\/strong>, that is to say a substance <strong>administered in inactive form<\/strong>. This means that it only becomes active after being <strong>metabolized by the liver<\/strong> (approximately 30 minutes after ingestion). However, after metabolization, only delta-9-THC remains. One of the avenues studied by scientists to understand the power of THC-O is its probable <strong>better bioavailability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p>Thus, once THC-O is absorbed and transformed into THC, it achieves similar effects, but with the equivalent of a much higher dose.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-risques-lies-a-la-consommation-de-thc-o\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Risks_associated_with_THC-O_consumption\"><\/span>Risks associated with THC-O consumption<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-349657\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Effets-indesirables-THC-O-min.jpg\" alt=\"side effects thc o min\" class=\"wp-image-349657\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Consumption of THC-O can alter mood and cause hallucinations<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Certainly, THC-O appears to be a powerful way to enhance the effects of THC without consuming more product. But is this really good news?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>THC is what we call a <strong>CB1 receptor agonist of the endocannabinoid system<\/strong>. It is therefore capable of binding to it, but only partially and not necessarily very effectively. The SEC is in fact a <strong>complex and subtle system<\/strong>. To operate it optimally, it is more effective to find a substance that binds to it better rather than one that only does part of the work but with violence. This is what THC-O does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In summary, THC-O is powerful, but only in certain aspects, otherwise not necessarily those we would like. It seems so very good <strong>enhance the adverse effects of THC<\/strong>, like the<strong>anxiety<\/strong>, there <strong>paranoia<\/strong> or even the <strong>palpitations<\/strong>. A <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/37466480\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">study<\/a> <em><\/em> published in July 2023 also highlights that heating THC-O can create <strong>ketene gas<\/strong>, which is toxic and in particular <strong>harmful to the lungs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-effets-pressentis-du-thc-o\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Expected_effects_of_THC-O\"><\/span>Expected effects of THC-O<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Mental and physical relaxation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Euphoria<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased concentration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Drowsiness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased appetite<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pain relief<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk of hallucinations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Increased anxiety, mainly in people with mental health problems<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dizziness<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk of paranoia<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Nausea and vomiting<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Palpitations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk of epileptic seizures<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-legislation-en-vigueur-en-france-et-dans-le-monde\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Legislation_in_force_in_France_and_around_the_world\"><\/span>Legislation in force in France and around the world<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image size-full wp-image-349659\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Legislation-THC-O-min.jpg\" alt=\"thc o min legislation\" class=\"wp-image-349659\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The law does not always distinguish between natural and synthetic cannabinoids, such as THC-O<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-situation-legale-en-france\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Legal_situation_in_France\"><\/span>Legal situation in France<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In France, legal cannabis derivatives are those which are extracted from an authorized variety of cannabis (hemp) and whose THC level does not exceed 0.3%. This rule is difficult to apply to <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/cbd-naturel-ou-cbd-de-synthese\/\">synthetic cannabis<\/a>. In addition, <strong>seven families of synthetic cannabinoids<\/strong> were therefore added to the <strong>list of narcotics<\/strong>. It contains several dozen molecules, mainly for their <strong>chemical similarity to Delta-9-THC<\/strong> and, by extension, their <strong>psychoactive effects<\/strong>, their <strong>potential for abuse and dependence<\/strong> and their <strong>toxicity<\/strong>. HHC-O (acetate of <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/hhc-quelle-difference-avec-cbd\/\">HHC<\/a>) has been listed there since June 2023. Not explicitly listed, THC-O should therefore follow the same logic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-cadre-legislatif-international\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"International_legislative_framework\"><\/span>International legislative framework<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Internationally, laws follow one another and are not alike. In some countries, cannabis and all of its derivatives are completely prohibited; a simplicity which nevertheless misses certain virtuous properties of the plant, notably through the <a href=\"https:\/\/weedy.fr\/blog\/hhc-quelle-difference-avec-cbd\/\">CBD products<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the United States, often pioneers in the field, THC-O was banned by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/dariosabaghi\/2023\/02\/16\/delta-8-and9-thc-o-are-controlled-substances-dea-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the DEA<\/a> in February 2023. Their argument is simple: THC-O is not <strong>not naturally present in the cannabis plant<\/strong> and can only be obtained synthetically, it does not meet the definition of hemp. Understand, he cannot comply with the same legislation.
