It is not uncommon to come across an article on the relaxation and relief with CBD. However, it is sometimes difficult to draw the false from the real and go against real effects of CBD on the body. It must be said that between lack of perspective on the scientific research, demonization of THC and multiplication of derivative products (oil, creams, e-liquids), it is not always easy to navigate. But by the way do we know exactly why CBD is a natural relaxing ?
Relaxation and relief: effects of CBD on the human body
Le CBD, or cannabidiol, is a cannabinoid. Canabinoids are a family of natural chemicals present in cannabis plants. We then speak of plant cannabinoids, as opposed to synthetic cannabinoids (created in the laboratory) and endogenous cannabinoids. The latter are also natural, but secreted by certain animal species, including humans.
Thus, Man is provided with a so-called endocannabinoid system (SEC), capable of synthesize and degrade cannabinoids. Particularly numerous in the organism, these molecules play a major role in the functioning of the human body. They fully assume their role by interacting with the two types of sensors making up the ESA: CB1 and CB2 sensors.
CB1 are mainly located in the central nervous system and, more anecdotally, in the peripheral nervous system. They are involved in particular in the lungs, the gastrointestinal system and the genitals. CB2 are mainly located within the immune system, including the spleen.
It is therefore thanks to its natural proximity to certain molecules secreted by the human body that CBD has effects on the body. The relaxation and the relief of certain pains are thus only the emerged face of interactions between humans and cannabis.
Stress, anxiety, sleep problems: what can CBD relieve?
Thanks to SEC, cannabinoids act quite strongly on the human body. CBD is not the only one concerned, however. It is quite logically systematically compared to THC, or tetrahydrocannabinol, the cannabinoid with hovering effects. For European law, THC is therefore considered a narcotic. In France, Belgium and Luxembourg, as in the rest of the EU, any product derived from cannabis is only legal if its THC level is minimal (less than 0,2%). CBD is legal.
The effects of THC on the human body are not all negative, however. By acting primarily on the CB1 receptors, THC is certainly euphoric, but also proves to be a natural anticonvulsant.
Relaxation and relief with CBD: pathologies concerned
CBD seems responsible forrelaxation and relief effects. Although it cannot be considered a medicine in France, the international scientific community is closely interested in it for many potential applications. Among the opportunities for relaxation and relief with CBD, we find:
- Relaxation for the purpose of sleep better with CBD,
- Relief with CBD from chronic pain (fibromyalgia, arthritis),
- The appeasement of psychic pathologies like anxiety and depression,
- Relief from skin lesions et maladies de la peau (acne, psoriasis, eczema),
- The decrease in neurological disorders (epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, dementia),
- Relief from intestinal disorders (Crohn's disease).
Most of the conditions for which relaxation and relief with CBD seem possible are the subject of scientific research. The lack of results overwhelmingly recognized by the various governments, just like the lack of perspective, however imply that most European countries do not consider CBD, or even hemp in general, as a medicine. Attitudes are changing, however.
Products used for relaxation and relief with CBD
CBD is present in all forms. In its natural state, it is present in trichomes, small vesicles adorning cannabis flowers. Extract, it comes in the form of a fatty substance which can be incorporated into all types of products.
People looking for the relaxation and relief effects of CBD can find it in the form of:
- ofe-liquid, for example, to quit conventional cigarettes,
- de creams and masks, for skin relief (hydration, anti-aging),
- de balms and lotions for muscle relaxation,
- in the rawest form ofCBD oils to apply directly or use in other preparations.
Relaxation and relief with CBD thanks to cannabis hybridization
In their natural state, hemp plants contain variable cannabinoid levels, the most common being usually THC, followed by CBD. THC is prohibited by European law, unlike CBD, the cultivation of such plants is therefore by definition illegal. To take advantage of the relaxation and relief that CBD seems to promise, you need to be able to grow plants meeting the European legal framework, that is to say almost free of THC. This is where thehybridization.
In botany, hybridization consists of cross different varieties of plants to create a new strain, inheriting certain specificities from ascending strains. Parents are therefore carefully selected according to characteristics which one wishes to preserve in the descendants. In the case of legal cannabis, the main selection criterion is that the strain is naturally rich in CBD and poor in THC.
Main strains from cannabis hybridization
Achieve a THC level of less than 0,2% balanced by a high CBD content remaining stable over the successive stages of plant reproduction is therefore the first challenge to be met. Other criteria then come into play to obtain exceptional plants, such as the presence of certain terpenes, the natural aromas of cannabis.
Over time, a few flagship cannabis strains have thus emerged thanks to hybridization:
- Kush (and other derivatives such as OG Kush): a subset of strains born in the United States in the 1970s and used in particular for certain clinical trials on medical cannabis.
- Haze (also Purple Haze, Lemon Haze): an energizing family widely used for hy
- Northern Lights: a very pure variety also widely used for hybridization.
- White Widow: deemed powerful and soothing.
These varieties are only a few representative examples, there are many others. Depending on their ancestry, they may be rather energizing or on the contrary offer relaxation and relief to their users thanks to their high CBD content.
